BeReal on the Rise

Social media like you've never seen before! BeReal is the newest social media mobile application popular among Gen-Z users. The app gives a fresh look into the users' everyday lives with a two-minute notification to post what you are doing at that time! BeReal and be you.

Take a look at the latest social media trend. BeReal was created in 2020 but is now rising in popularity, mainly among Gen-Z users.

Downloading too many social media apps can become overwhelming for some people, leading many to ask: What is so different about BeReal?

In today's society, social media can quickly become a source of negative energy if not handled correctly. However, BeReal is becoming known for taking out the adverse effects and stress of posting on a social media app. Dubbed for being an "anti-influencer site," their application store description states, "BeReal won't make you famous. If you want to become an influencer, you can stay on Tik Tok and Instagram." This concept is scarce for a social media app, making it completely different from other platforms.

HOW TO USE IT IN 3 EASY STEPS:

Step One: Once an individual signs up for the app, they will receive a notification at a random time in the day to post a picture.

Step Two: Once the notification is received, the user has 2 minutes to post a picture using their front and back camera before the post is marked as “late”.

Step Three: These pictures will then be posted to your followers. The catch is, that you can only view your friend’s post if you post one yourself.

Don’t get us wrong, social media apps like Instagram and Tik Tok are not going anywhere anytime soon and have positive impacts on society too, but the name BeReal speaks for itself. The point of the app is to be authentic at the moment. It looks into what users ae genuinely like in their everyday lives. Whether having a movie marathon, walking your dog, hanging with your friends, or being at the beach, BeReal authentically catches you without filters. Removing perfectionism in everyone’s life can ultimately change how social media is viewed.

It is also a great way to see what your friends are up to! For example, Emily a user of BeReal for around two months said “It’s silly but I feel like it serves a different purpose than Instagram or Snapchat. I have friends on it who I don’t communicate with on a regular basis but I appreciate getting a little window into what they’re doing once a day, even if it’s just sitting in front of their computer or on a walk.” That is a big part of what social media is all about. Feeling connected to your close friends, even if you don’t get to physically see them every day.

Give it a try yourself and let us know what you think!
